Dr. Darrell Townsend II has been the Director of GRDA’s Ecosystems Management since its creation in 2004. He earned a Ph.D. in Rangeland and Wildlife Ecology from Oklahoma State University, where he also earned bachelors and masters degrees in Ecology. Townsend currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Zoology at Oklahoma State University and former Math and Biological Sciences Department at Tulsa Community College. His research has appeare
d in several peer-reviewed scientific publications. Under the leadership of GRDA’s CEO Kevin Easley, Townsend has led GRDA’s renewed commitment to conservation and restoration by focusing on small scale lake management issues while simultaneously coordinating and implementing broad scale approaches to watershed management. Some of his responsibilities with GRDA include oversight of GRDA’s Carbon Sequestration and Ecosystems Research and Restoration Area (CSERRA) located along the Neosho River west of Miami, Oklahoma. Additionally, he has coordinated a unique partnership between the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and GRDA to support a 10-year graduate fellowship program in conservation and restoration within the Grand Lake Watershed where graduate students will play a key role in the development and implementation of GRDA’s CSERRA program.
