Kirby Clayton closed out a nearly 30-year career with GRDA December 31, 2012.

For nearly 30 years Kirby Clayton has helped maintain GRDA’s Coal Fired plant. He began performing maintenance work on Unit 1 in the fall of 1983 as a Power Station Mechanic while Unit 2 was being built. Through the years he has taken care of the general mechanical maintenance of both units. Retiring on January 1, 2013, as the Superintendent of the Mechanical Maintenance Department, Kirby acknowledges that he will miss the people and the deadlines.

“It’s a great place to work,” he said. “There are a lot of good people here. I enjoyed meeting the deadlines and appreciated all of the work that each one did in order to get it all back up and running again. I have been blessed with great crews, I will miss them.”

Kirby and Nannette, who recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary, plan on traveling and doing a good bit of babysitting. The couple has five children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

At its December meeting, GRDA Board of Directors honored Kirby with a resolution of commendation, recognizing his many years of service with GRDA. All the GRDA employees also take this opportunity to wish Kirby the best of luck in his retirement
