Purpose of Position

This is an entry level, unclassified (exempt) position performing electrical engineering duties for the Engineering Department of the Grand River Dam Authority as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports directly to the Chief Engineer or designated supervisor.

 

SUPERVISED PERSONNEL:  Normally does not supervise any other positions.  May assume specific temporary supervisory duties for certain project functions and/or training duties.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs engineering analysis, calculations, design, studies, and other duties associated with constructing, maintaining, and operating high voltage transmission lines and facilities.
  • Creates specifications; prepares bid documents; evaluates bids received; prepares and presents reports and recommendations as required for purchase of materials, equipment, services, and miscellaneous items associated with high voltage transmission lines and other assigned projects.
  • Coordinates plans with Purchasing and Warehouse departments to schedule procurement activities such that necessary materials and equipment are available when needed for transmission line projects.
  • Coordinates or verifies work of outside contractors and/or engineering firms concerning transmission line design activities; monitors work orders, project progress, change orders, and contractor payments of assigned areas.
  • May represent GRDA in regional organizations concerning transmission lines and/or transmission related topics.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains records for assigned oversight areas of department.
  • Assists with the update of departmental construction standards and other departmental records.
  • After-hours work may be required under system emergency or storm conditions.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a power emphasis from an accredited college or university.  Additional courses or practical experience in electrical transmission line design, systems analysis, computer programming, and project and facility management are desirable. 

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license. 
  • PE registration in Oklahoma is required within 5 years of employment.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel, Access, and Word. 
  • Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Must be comfortable giving verbal presentations before groups.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs, crawl, work from ladders and elevated platforms. Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis.
  • Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail.  Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & SAFETY CONCERNS:        

  • Work is usually performed in an office environment with outdoor excursions for design, testing, and troubleshooting of equipment when necessary.
  • Repair work may be performed outdoors and/or indoors in a high noise/high temperature environment with possible work in confined spaces.  Emergency repair work may be required during inclement weather and at any time in any season.

 

JOB LOCATION:

  • Work is performed primarily at the Transmission headquarters near Pryor, Oklahoma.  Specific work site and substation locations exist throughout the northeastern quarter of Oklahoma and/or other locations, as assigned.
