GRDA Summer 2007 Lake Guide for Grand Lake and Lake Hudson.

Lake Hudson

Lake Hudson was created in 1964 with GRDA's completion of the Markham Ferry Project (Robert S. Kerr Dam). Named after the late Wash Hudson, a former Tulsa attorney and member of the GRDA Board of Directors.

Lake Hudson is situated in a natural river valley, resting at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Its location provides for breathtaking scenery comprised of majestic bluffs, rolling hills and quiet, secluded coves.

Significantly smaller than its "big sister," Grand Lake O' The Cherokees, Lake Hudson has 12,000 surface acres of water surrounded by 200 miles of shoreline. Hudson has an average elevation of 619 feet above sea level. Besides Grand, it is the only other major lake in the state where residents can own lakefront property on the water's edge.

A wide variety of fish can be caught on Lake Hudson, and many consider it to be the best bass fishing lake in the state.During the fall and winter months, Lake Hudson is a haven for wildlife.

For rules and regulation on Lake Hudson please visit the GRDA Lake Patrol.

W.R. Holway Reservoir
W.R. Holway Reservoir was created in 1968 with GRDA's completion of the first stage of the Salina Pumped Storage Project. It is located in the hills of northeastern Oklahoma, attached to Lake Hudson via the Saline Creek arm of the lake. Resting on a bed of rocks carved from the hills, the waters of the reservoir are clear and pristine.

In 1981, the reservoir was named to honor the late W.R. Holway, GRDA's longtime consulting engineer. Prior to that, the reservoir was known as Chimney Rock Reservoir, after the valley in which its 200-foot tall earth and rock dam was built.

GRDA regulations prohibit internal combustion engines on the reservoir, ensuring a relaxing fishing experience. Swimming is also prohibited on the reservoir.
