Purpose of Position

This is an unclassified (exempt) position performing electrical engineering duties and providing software support for GRDA Engineering department.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to the Operations Planning Engineer or Technical Superintendent-Operations Planner.

 

SUPERVISED PERSONNEL:  None

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs computerized transmission system studies for review by engineering staff.  Studies include those concerning load flow, voltage drop, reactive power flow, faults, stability, and other cases as required, for the analysis of the GRDA high voltage transmission lines, substations, and generation facilities as part of the regional transmission grid.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains records for assigned areas of department.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains records required for evidence of compliance with various NERC standards associated with system planning activities.
  • Develops software to automate the computerized study processes and results documentation using PSS/E proprietary language Python.  Link department databases into one central database.
  • Maintains and integrates the databases used by the engineering department,  Candidates with experience or familiarity with PSS/E,Aspen, C++, MatLab, Fortran,  will have an advantage.  Applicant must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access.
  • Collects and maintains accurate equipment ratings for use in planning studies and by other departments within GRDA.
  • Supports other Engineering Department software; works with users to improve use of software products and identify additional applications that are worthwhile to GRDA;

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Requires skills in software development (C#.net), understanding of network technologies, problem solving, and technical writing.
  • Two or more years work experience in software development and support.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must be capable of methodical, repeated, detailed analysis of complex technical problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form in a formal or informal presentation setting to an audience or an individual.
  • Must be willing to learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be willing to attend training out of state when the need arises.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 30 lb. on an irregular basis.
  • Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail.
  • Manual dexterity is required for operation of computers and computer input equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & SAFETY CONCERNS:

  • Work is usually performed in an office environment with outdoor excursions for verification of construction and gathering physical data
  • Some work may be performed outdoors and/or indoors in a high noise/high temperature environment with possible work in confined spaces.
  • Assistance with emergency repair work may be required during inclement weather and at any time in any season.

JOB LOCATION:

  • Work is performed primarily at the GRDA Energy Technology Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Specific work site and substation locations exist throughout the northeastern quarter ofOklahomaand/or other locations, as assigned.
