Purpose of Position

This is an unclassified (exempt) senior level position performing real time marketing duties for the System Operation Department of the Grand River Dam Authority.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports directly to the Asst. Supt. of Generation & Marketing System Operations or designated supervisor.

 SUPERVISED PERSONNEL:  This position will supervise/train subordinate employees and serve as a lead worker.


  • Negotiate purchases/sales of power with other utilities and marketers to maximize return to GRDA, minimize delivered cost of power, and ensure the adequacy and reliability of power supply for the GRDA power system.
  • Integrates, evaluates and interprets data from GRDA market operations, weather services, the SPP RTO and other informational websites in order to determine power needs and available assets.
  • Shall be responsible for complying with the NERC reliability standards and FERC regulatory requirements.
  • Shall be responsible for complying with GRDA’s Processes, Procedures, and Plans.
  • Shall act in accordance with GRDA’s Standards of Conduct.
  • Forecast real-time Balancing Area system load, analyze the next-day forecast with generation schedules and make any adjustments necessary.
  • Maintain a detailed marketing log of daily transactions, commitments, communications and events related to the generation and marketing of GRDA energy resources.
  • Creates NERC E-Tags for confirmed Interchange Transactions.
  • Acquires Transmission Service as needed, pursuant to the applicable terms and conditions of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff.
  • Purchase or sale of Economy Energy Service to Members of WSPP, consistent with statutory requirements of the WSPP Agreement.
  • Offering and scheduling GRDA Resources into the Energy Imbalance Service Market while complying with the SPP Energy Imbalance Market Protocols.
  • The ability to work rotating 12 hour shifts including holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Prepare for and assist in developing strategies associated with the SPP Integrated Marketplace implementation scheduled for March 2014.


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business or electrical field from an accredited college or university and/or equivalent industry experience.   


  • Must have or the ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license. 


  • The knowledge of basic electrical generation and fundamental energy marketing accounting practices.
  • Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel and Word. 
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.


  • The ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts and be willing to travel as required.
  • Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail. 
  • Must be capable of performing job duties under stressful situations.


  • Work is usually performed in an office environment with occasional outdoor fieldtrips for training and acquiring electrical system knowledge.


Work is performed primarily at the Tulsa Engineering and Technology Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
